Quite a lot of analysts are criticizing Microsoft and its new Windows 8 operating system, suggesting that the tech giant could easily lose its leading position in the OS industry if it doesn’t introduce major changes as soon as possible.
The most recent statistics provided by Net Applications for the month of May 2013 prove otherwise: Windows remains the clear leader of the OS market, despite the slight increase in market share of both Mac and Linux.
Windows had a market share of 91.67 percent in May, down from 91.78 percent a month before, but enough to demonstrate that Microsoft’s operating system continues to be the top choice for desktops users across the world.
Mac OS X, on the other hand, has increased its market share from 7.01 percent in April to 7.07 percent last month. Linux remains the third most popular platform out there, as it was installed on 1.26 percent of computers worldwide in May 2013, up from 1.21 percent a month before.
