Samsung Galaxy Round Goes Official with 5.7-Inch Flexible Display


World's first smartphone to features a flexible display, Samsung Galaxy Round has just been officially unveiled in South Korea.

Although it's not actually available for purchase yet, Samsung claims the smartphone will go on sale no later than October 10; that's exactly one day from now.

No word on pricing options yet, but the handset maker confirmed it will be available in South Korea in Luxury Brown, and additional color options will be introduced soon.

Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to unveils the Galaxy Round specs sheet. The company only states the smartphone boasts a huge 5.7-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED flexible display that's only 7.9mm.

It is also worth mentioning the curved phone is only 7.9mm thin and weighs exactly 154g (battery included. Some of the display's main features have been also mentioned by Samsung in press release:

- Roll Effect: Enables user to check information such as date, time, missed cal l and battery easily when home screen is off;
- Gravity Effect: Creates visual interaction with the screen by tilting the device;
- Bounce UX: Enables users to control their music. When the Galaxy Round’s display is
off while the music player is running, a short press to the left of the device will play the previous track while a short press to the right will play the next track;
- Side Mirror: Enables users to gain access to list of the album content with a left and right tilt.

We're expecting Samsung to announce some of the phone's hardware specs as well, but until then here is what we have already learned. The Galaxy Round should be equipped with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM.

It will also sport a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 2800 mAh Li-Ion battery and LTE support. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
