NEC Intros Amazing S-PVA and A-MVA Touchscreens


Japanese electronics giant NEC has just introduced two new big screen monitors that have 6-point multi touch support. The new monitors are mainly targeting institutional use, but the panels are high quality and come with impressive technical characteristics.

The official mode l name of the 46” version is NEC V462-TM and this one uses an S-PVA panel sporting an impressive 430 cd/sqm brightness and a high 3000 to 1 standard contrast ratio with an 8-ms response time.

The second display announced by the company is called NEC V651-TM and this one features an A-MVA panel with an even greater brightness level of 480 cd/sqm and a suitable 5000 to 1 standard contrast ratio which is very impressive.

Most monitors feature a standard 1000 to 1 contrast ration and a 250 cd/sqm brightness and we can easily see what NEC’s new monitors are superior.

Like the name suggests, NEC V651-TM features a 56” diagonal size and the same FullHD 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution as the NEC V651-TM.

Both displays come with an integrated 10W speaker which is quite powerful for use in a normal sized classroom, for example.

AMVA is a new generation MVA technology. MVA is short for multi-domain vertical alignmen t and this was the first technology that was able to offer fast response time and very good contrast rates for the time it was introduced.

In fact, MVA offered very high quality black and good color reproduction along with very good contrast rates and wide viewing angles that can only be surpassed by S-IPS panels.

Later on, the MVA technology was updated and AU Optronics developed PMVA and AMVA while Chi Mei Optoelectronics developed SMVA.

AMVA technology offers much better real contrast than IPS panels and the colors don’t change as much when the monitor is not viewed perfectly perpendicular like they change on classic TN panels.

On the other hand, PVA is short for “patterned vertical alignment” while S-PVA is a more advanced technology that offers at least 8 bits per color component and do not use color simulation methods.

S-PVA also comes with faster response times, but in this case, both NEC models have the same 8-ms response time.

One important note that we must emphasize is the fact that the VA technology offers the highest c ontrast ratios compared to all other popular panel types, which leads to much better black levels.

Some say that VA panels come the closest to “true black” on a computer display.

Priced at $2600 (2000 EUR) and $8000 (6160 EUR) respectively, NEC’s new touchscreens are considerably expensive, but can be used in various applications.

The touch technology is implemented by the use of four video cameras and, therefore the sceen can be protected from damage with no fear that the touch ability will be affected.
