Arch Linux Deprecates /etc/sysctl.conf, User Intervention Required

Gaetan Bisson has announced on September 17 that the /etc/sysctl.conf configuration file will be deprecated in the Arch Linux operating system, because of systemd 207 or later.

Because of some modifications in the 207 version of the systemd package, system settings will no longer be applied from the /etc/sysctl.conf file. They will only be applied from the /etc/sysctl.d/ directory.

Therefore, Arch Linux users are advised to manually move any changes they've made to the /etc/sysctl.conf file under /etc/sysctl.d when upgrading to procps-ng-3.3.8-3, using the following commands:

pacman -Syu
mv /etc/sysctl.conf.pacsave /etc/sysctl.d/99-sysctl.conf

However, this is only for those of you who customized the /etc/sysctl.conf file. If you never tou ched /etc/sysctl.conf, there's nothing to worry about, just upgrade your system as usual, without applying the second command listed above.
